i What the fare covers. The vehicle, the driver, the fuel and every toll on the route, for the whole day — plus pastries and water on board. Entrance fees and lunch are not included. We say so here rather than at the payment screen: a palace ticket you did not expect is the fastest way to spoil a good day out.
Want a day that is not on this list — two destinations, a slower pace, a wine estate, somewhere your family is from? That is what the chauffeur day below is for.

What a private tour day is actually like
The cards above say where you go. This is what happens between being collected and being dropped back — and, just as importantly, what the fare does and does not cover.
A Privora private tour is your own vehicle and your own driver for the day, from a half day in Lisbon to an eleven-hour loop of the Silver Coast. Tours run €180 to €500 for the whole car depending on length — not per person, so a solo traveller and a group of four pay the same figure. Fuel, every motorway toll, and Portuguese pastries and water on board are inside that price; entrance fees and lunch are not. There is no fixed departure time and no other passengers.
The shape of a Privora tour day
-
01
You are collected
Your driver comes to you — any hotel or address in Lisbon city, or Lisbon Airport if you are touring on an arrival or departure day — at a time you choose, not a time a timetable chooses. There is no meeting point to find and no group to wait for.
Tell us the start time when you book. Early is usually better on the longer days, and your driver will say so if it is.
-
02
The car is yours for the day
It stays with you. Bags, coats and everything you buy stay in the vehicle rather than on your shoulder, and between stops there is somewhere to sit down that is not a café.
Comfort and Premium take three passengers; the 7-Seater takes seven. On a day tour you are not carrying luggage, so the seven seats are genuinely seven seats.
-
03
Your driver knows the place
Every Privora driver speaks English and lives here. You get commentary and recommendations on the way — what is worth the queue, where to eat that is not on the square, which entrance is quicker.
Inside the monuments you go at your own pace. Ask your driver what to look for before you walk in; they will tell you.
-
04
You decide how long to stay
This is the part a coach cannot do. If Regaleira turns out to be the best thing you see all week, stay in it. If the queue for Pena is ninety minutes, skip it and go to the coast early.
The itinerary is a plan, not a contract. Within the booked hours it is yours to change on the day.
-
05
Lunch happens where you want it
Lunch is not included and not scheduled, which means you are not herded into a set menu at 12:30 with sixty other people. Tell your driver what you feel like and they will take you to it.
There are pastries and water in the car for the gaps.
-
06
Back where you started
You are returned to the same address you were collected from, the same evening. The Fátima day and the Grand Circuit both end back in Lisbon rather than requiring a night away.
Nothing is settled at the end. The fare was agreed before you set off, unless you added a stop on the day.
In the price
- The vehicle and the driver for the whole booked day
- Fuel and every motorway and bridge toll on the route
- An English-speaking driver with local knowledge Commentary and recommendations as you go
- Portuguese pastries and water on board
- One child seat — tell us the age when you book
- Parking wherever the day requires it
- A WhatsApp line before and during your day
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup Full refund, no reason needed
Not in the price
- Entrance fees Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle, Regaleira, and the other ticketed sites. Buy them online in advance where you can — your driver will tell you which ones sell out.
- Lunch and drinks Not scheduled either, which is the point. You eat where and when you decide.
- Anything you buy along the way
- A gratuity Never expected. Always welcome if the day was a good one.
The Sanctuary at Fátima is free to enter, so the pilgrimage day has no ticket cost at all. The Sintra days are the ones where entrance fees add up — ask when you book and we will tell you roughly what to budget for the palaces you actually want to see.
Private, not packaged
The difference is who else is in the vehicle
A coach tour and a private tour visit the same places. What separates them is the hours in between — and the arithmetic changes faster than most people expect once there is more than one of you.
One car, one fare — so the more of you there are, the less it costs each
Sintra & Cascais, full day, Comfort car at €350. Same car, same day, same price.
- On your own €350 each
- Two of you €175 each
- Three of you €117 each
- Four, in the 7-Seater €98 each
You are booking the vehicle, not a seat in it. A coach ticket is a price each and never falls; this one halves with the second person and keeps going. The four-person figure uses the 7-Seater at €390, because Comfort seats three — so it is the real number, not the flattering one.
What a private tour gives you that a coach tour cannot
-
1
You are not waiting for anyone
No 7am pickup that collects six other hotels first, no thirty minutes in a car park while a group reassembles, no departure you have to be back for. On a coach day, a surprising amount of the day is spent waiting for other people.
-
2
You set the pace, and change it
Stay two hours in Regaleira if it turns out to be the best thing you see all week. Skip Pena if the queue is ninety minutes and go to the coast early instead. The itinerary is a plan, not a contract.
-
3
The car goes where a coach cannot
Sintra is a steep, narrow one-way loop with traffic restrictions; Óbidos is a walled town largely closed to vehicles. A car drops you at the gate. A coach parks where coaches are allowed to park, which is not always near the thing you came to see.
-
4
The quote is the final figure
Fuel, parking and every motorway toll on the route are inside the fare before you book. Entrance fees and lunch are not, and we say so above the fares rather than at the payment screen.
-
5
Lunch is not a set menu at 12:30
Not including lunch is a feature. You eat where and when you decide, on your driver’s recommendation rather than on a coach operator’s commission arrangement — and there are pastries and water in the car for the gaps.
-
6
Somebody local to ask
Every Privora driver speaks English and lives here. You get commentary and recommendations on the way — what is worth the queue, where to eat that is not on the square, which entrance is quicker — from one person who stays with you all day.
The airport run and the day out are the same company
Most tour operators start at your hotel door and most airport transfer companies stop at it. Privora runs both, in the same vehicles, with the same drivers — so the person who met you at arrivals can be the person who takes you to Sintra on Thursday.
It is a practical difference rather than a rhetorical one. You are not starting again with a stranger, and there is one company to contact if anything about your week changes.

Frequently asked
Private tours from Lisbon — your questions answered
What is included, where the day starts, how the vehicles are priced and what happens if the weather turns. Questions about a specific tour are answered when you enquire about it.
What exactly is a Privora private tour?
Your own vehicle and your own driver for the day, on a route you choose, with nobody else in the car. There is no fixed departure time, no group to keep up with and no coach.
Six itineraries are published — Lisbon, Sintra, Sintra and Cascais, Óbidos and Nazaré, Fátima, and the Grand Circuit that takes in three destinations in one day. They run from four hours to eleven.
If none of them is quite your day, tell us what you would like to see and we will build the day around it.
How much does a private tour cost?
€180 to €500 for the whole vehicle, depending on how long the day is — a half day in Lisbon is €180 in a Comfort car, the eleven-hour Grand Circuit is €500.
| Tour | Comfort | Premium | 7-Seater |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lisbon City Tour 4 hours | €180 | €205 | €220 |
| Sintra Day Tour 8 hours | €200 | €225 | €240 |
| Sintra & Cascais 8 hours | €350 | €375 | €390 |
| Óbidos & Nazaré 9 hours | €390 | €415 | €430 |
| Fátima Pilgrimage Day 8 hours | €420 | €445 | €460 |
| Grand Circuit 11 hours | €500 | €525 | €540 |
The vehicle, the driver, the fuel and every toll are inside those figures, along with pastries and water on board and one child seat. Entrance fees and lunch are not — see the question below.
Where does the tour start? Do you collect me from my hotel?
At your hotel or any address in Lisbon city — or at Lisbon Airport. Your driver comes to you at a time you choose, so there is no meeting point to find and no group to wait for.
Give us the hotel name or the full address when you book, and the start time you want. On the longer days an early start is usually better, and your driver will say so if it is.
You are returned to the same address you were collected from, the same evening.
Are entrance fees and lunch included?
No — and we would rather tell you now than at the ticket desk. The fare covers the vehicle, the driver, the fuel and every toll for the whole day. Entrance fees to palaces and monuments, and lunch, are yours.
- Vehicle, driver, fuel, all tolls & parking Included
- Pastries and water on board Included
- One child seat — state the age when booking Included
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before Included
- Palace and monument entrance fees Not included
- Lunch and drinks Not included
The Sintra days are where tickets add up, because Pena, the Moorish Castle and Regaleira are each charged separately and Pena in particular sells out. Buy those online in advance where you can — your driver will tell you which ones matter. The Sanctuary at Fátima is free to enter, so the pilgrimage day has no ticket cost at all.
Lunch is not scheduled either, which is deliberate: you are not herded into a set menu at half past twelve. Tell your driver what you feel like and they will take you to it.
Is the price per car or per person?
Per car, on every tour. The fare covers the vehicle and everyone in it, so four people on the Sintra and Cascais day pay the same €350 that one person would — about €88 each rather than €350 each.
This is the opposite of how a coach tour is priced, and it is why the arithmetic flips with group size. One traveller is usually better off on a coach. Three or four are usually better off in their own car, and they get the day to themselves as well.
Because Comfort and Premium both seat three, a group of four or more takes the 7-Seater. On a day tour you are not carrying luggage, so all seven seats are usable.
Is there a guide, or just a driver?
Your driver is a local who speaks English and will tell you about the places you are going — commentary and recommendations on the way, and what is worth your time when you get there. Inside the monuments you explore at your own pace.
How many of us fit in one car?
Comfort and Premium take up to 3 passengers; the 7-Seater takes up to 7. On a day tour you are not travelling with hold luggage, so all seven seats are usable.
Comfort is the base tier and there is no supplement for it — clean, modern, air-conditioned. Premium is newer and quieter, mostly electric. The 7-Seater is the one to book for four or more.
Larger groups travel in two vehicles, quoted the same way. Tell us the number when you enquire and we will price it properly rather than squeezing you.
What happens if it rains?
The tour runs. A private car is the best possible vehicle for a wet day — you are dropped at the door of each place and collected from it, rather than walking between them or waiting at a stop.
Your driver will reorder the day around the weather where that helps: indoor sites while it is heaviest, the viewpoints when it clears. Sintra sits in its own microclimate and is often in cloud when Lisbon is not, which is exactly the sort of thing a local driver knows in advance.
If you would rather not go at all, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup and you are refunded in full.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you like — but a late booking is not a problem if a car is free. There is no cut-off. If we have a vehicle available for your date, we can take the booking.
The one thing to know about booking late: a tour booked less than 24 hours before pickup cannot be refunded. Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before pickup, so a booking made inside that window starts past the point where it applies.
Booking early costs nothing: cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup, so you can hold a car and a date while the rest of your plans firm up.
The 13th of May and the 13th of October are the two dates when Fátima fills up, and road access around the Sanctuary tightens considerably. Book those well ahead.
Still deciding? Compare the six tours and fares, or tell us what you would like to see and we will build the day around it.
