About the Fátima Pilgrimage Day Tour
Your driver collects you from your hotel or any address in Lisbon city — or from Lisbon Airport — and drives you north to Fátima. The day is built around unhurried time at the Sanctuary: Mass, the Chapel of the Apparitions and the Basilica, with no group to keep up with and no departure to be back for.
Afterwards you visit Aljustrel, the shepherds’ village, before the drive home. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and it covers the fuel and every motorway toll on the way.

Private or shared?
Is a private tour better than a shared bus tour?
For one person travelling alone, a shared bus tour is cheaper. From two or three people upward, a private tour is usually the better choice: the Fátima Pilgrimage Day Tour is priced for the whole car, not per seat, so the fare is split between you — and the day runs on your schedule instead of a coach timetable.
Here is the arithmetic, using our own fares, so you can judge it for yourself against any shared tour you are looking at.
What a private car costs each of you
- 1 traveller €420 Comfort car, the whole fare A shared seat costs less
- 2 travellers €210 each Comfort car, €420 split two ways The gap closes fast
- 3 travellers €140 each Comfort car, €420 split three ways A whole day on your terms
- 4 travellers €115 each 7-Seater, €460 split four ways Everyone in one car
- 5 travellers €92 each 7-Seater, €460 split five ways Keeps falling
- 7 travellers €66 each 7-Seater, €460 split seven ways The lowest it goes
A shared bus tour charges a price per seat, so four people pay four times the ticket. A private tour charges one price for the car, so every extra traveller brings the cost per person down. The Comfort car takes up to three; four or more travel in the 7-Seater. Figures above are rounded to the nearest euro.
How the day compares

| Cheaper for | One person travelling alone | Two or more people travelling together |

Before you go
What should I know before I go?
Practical answers for your day at the Sanctuary of Fátima — what to wear, when Mass is, where to light a candle, where to find some quiet, and when to go — so nothing on the day takes you by surprise.
What should I wear to the Sanctuary of Fátima?
Dress as you would for church. Covered shoulders and knees are the safe choice inside the Chapel of the Apparitions and the basilicas, and beachwear is out of place anywhere on the Sanctuary grounds.
Wear comfortable shoes: the open esplanade in front of the Basilica is vast and there is a lot of walking between the chapels. Fátima sits inland and higher than Lisbon, so bring a layer — mornings and evenings are often cooler than the city you left.
What time is Mass at Fátima?
Mass is celebrated several times every day, in Portuguese and in several other languages — English included — mainly at the Chapel of the Apparitions and in the basilicas. The Rosary is prayed at the Chapel of the Apparitions as well.
The timetable changes with the season, so check the current times on the Sanctuary’s official Mass schedule before you travel. Tell us which Mass you would like to attend when you book, and we will set your pickup time around it.
Can I light a candle at Fátima?
Yes — lighting a candle is one of the oldest traditions here. Candles are on sale at the Sanctuary, and there is a dedicated place beside the Chapel of the Apparitions where pilgrims light them and leave them to burn.
In the shops around the Sanctuary you will also see wax offerings shaped like hands, hearts and other parts of the body. These are ex-votos — left in thanks for a prayer answered, or as a petition for someone’s healing.
Where are the quietest places at the Sanctuary?
Silence is asked for in the Chapel of the Apparitions and the basilicas, and early morning and weekdays are the quietest times anywhere on the grounds.
Many visitors pause at the tombs of the three shepherd children — Francisco, Jacinta and Lúcia — inside the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. For a quieter walk, the Way of the Cross follows the path the shepherd children used to take, past Valinhos — where Our Lady appeared in August 1917 — close to Aljustrel. You will also see a smooth path across the esplanade that pilgrims walk on their knees; please keep off it.
What is the best time of year to visit Fátima?
Spring and early autumn — roughly April to June, and September to October — bring mild weather and a Sanctuary that is busy but not overwhelmed.
July and August are hot, and the esplanade has very little shade. Winter is cold and often damp, but it is also when Fátima is at its most peaceful. If you would rather avoid the crowds, steer clear of the 12th and 13th of the month between May and October.
When are the big pilgrimages at Fátima in May and October?
The largest pilgrimages of the year fall on 12–13 May and 12–13 October, the anniversaries of the first and last apparitions. The 12th and 13th of each month from June to September are anniversary pilgrimages too.
- International pilgrimage 12–13 May Anniversary of the first apparition, in 1917. The busiest days of the whole year.
- Monthly anniversaries 12–13 June, July, August & September Smaller than May and October, but far busier than an ordinary day.
- International pilgrimage 12–13 October Anniversary of the last apparition and the Miracle of the Sun.
- The evening of the 12th: the Rosary and the candlelight procession across the esplanade.
- The 13th: the international Mass, then the farewell procession, when pilgrims wave white handkerchiefs.
- Plan ahead: book early, start early, and expect road closures — your driver may need to drop you a short walk from the Sanctuary.
