About the ViaFátima Grand Circuit
Your driver collects you from your hotel or any address in Lisbon city — or from Lisbon Airport — and the day begins where it matters most: unhurried time at the Sanctuary of Fátima, for Mass, the Chapel of the Apparitions and the Basilica.
From there you head to the coast at Nazaré, above the beach famous for some of the biggest waves ever surfed, and finish in Óbidos, a medieval town inside its walls. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and covers the fuel and every motorway toll. It is a long day — about eleven hours door to door — so it suits travellers happy to start early.

Private or shared?
Is a private tour better than a shared bus tour?
For one person travelling alone, a shared bus tour is cheaper. From two or three people upward, a private tour is usually the better choice: the ViaFátima Grand Circuit is priced for the whole car, not per seat, so the fare is split between you — and a long day across three towns runs on your schedule instead of a coach timetable.
Here is the arithmetic, using our own fares, so you can judge it for yourself against any shared tour you are looking at.
What a private car costs each of you
- 1 traveller €500 Comfort car, the whole fare A shared seat costs less
- 2 travellers €250 each Comfort car, €500 split two ways The gap closes fast
- 3 travellers €167 each Comfort car, €500 split three ways A whole day on your terms
- 4 travellers €135 each 7-Seater, €540 split four ways Everyone in one car
- 5 travellers €108 each 7-Seater, €540 split five ways Keeps falling
- 7 travellers €77 each 7-Seater, €540 split seven ways The lowest it goes
A shared bus tour charges a price per seat, so four people pay four times the ticket. A private tour charges one price for the car, so every extra traveller brings the cost per person down. The Comfort car takes up to three; four or more travel in the 7-Seater. Figures above are rounded to the nearest euro.
How the day compares
| Shared bus tour | Private tour with Privora | |
|---|---|---|
| How it is priced | Per seat — each person pays | Per car — one fixed price, however many of you |
| Cheaper for | One person travelling alone | Two or more people travelling together |
| Where it starts | A set meeting point, or a round of several hotels | Your hotel or any address in Lisbon, or Lisbon Airport |
| Departure time | Fixed by the operator | The time you choose |
| Time at each stop | Set by the group’s itinerary | As long as you want at Fátima, Nazaré and Óbidos — including the Mass you choose |
| Lunch | Where and when the group stops | In Nazaré, wherever and whenever you like |
| Who else is on board | Other passengers | Only the people you booked |
| Changing plans | The itinerary runs as published | Stay longer, skip a stop or change the order of the three towns on the day |
Which one suits you
A shared bus tour suits you if…
- You are travelling alone and the lowest price matters most
- You are happy with a fixed departure and a set itinerary
- You enjoy the company of a group
A private tour suits you if…
- There are two or more of you, so the fare is shared
- You want Mass at Fátima, lunch in Nazaré and Óbidos at your own pace, not the group’s
- You are travelling with children or older relatives — on an eleven-hour day, your own car means rest and stops when you need them
- You want to start from your hotel door, or straight from Lisbon Airport
Fixed price per car: Comfort €500 · Premium €525 · 7-Seater €540.
Three towns, one day
A sanctuary, a fishing town on the cliffs and a walled medieval village — here is what you will see at each stop of the ViaFátima Grand Circuit.
-
1 Morning
What will I see at Fátima?
You will see the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, where three shepherd children said the Virgin Mary appeared to them in 1917. There is unhurried time for Mass, the Chapel of the Apparitions and the Basilica before you head for the coast.
- The Chapel of the Apparitions — the small chapel at the heart of the Sanctuary. The statue of Our Lady stands on the spot where the holm oak of the apparitions once grew.
- The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary — the white basilica with the tall bell tower, where the three shepherd children, Francisco, Jacinta and Lúcia, are buried.
- The Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity — the large modern church facing it across the esplanade.
- The esplanade — the vast open square between the two basilicas, where pilgrims gather for the great processions.
Good to know: dress as you would for church, and tell us which Mass you would like to attend — we will time the morning around it.
-
2 Lunch
What will I see in Nazaré?
You will see Nazaré from the Sítio, the clifftop quarter high above the town, with the long beach curving away below you. It is the fishing town famous for some of the biggest waves ever surfed, and it is where you stop for lunch by the sea.
- The Sítio viewpoint — the lookout on the cliff edge with the whole town and its beach laid out beneath it. A funicular links the clifftop to the beach below.
- The Fort of São Miguel Arcanjo — the lighthouse fort on the headland, looking down on Praia do Norte, where the giant waves break.
- The Church of Our Lady of Nazaré — on the square at the Sítio, a pilgrimage church in its own right.
- The beach and the old fishing town — where you may still see fish laid out to dry on racks in the sun, and plenty of places for grilled fish at lunch.
Good to know: the giant waves come with the winter swells, roughly October to March. On a calm summer day the sea can be almost flat — the view is still worth the stop.
-
3 Afternoon
What will I see in Óbidos?
You will see a medieval town still enclosed by its castle walls, with whitewashed houses, cobbled lanes and flowers at every turn. You walk in through the main gate, wander the old streets and can climb onto the walls for views across the rooftops.
- Porta da Vila — the main town gate, lined inside with blue-and-white tiles.
- Rua Direita — the main street through the old town, full of small shops and stalls selling ginjinha, the local cherry liqueur, often served in a little chocolate cup.
- The walls and the castle — you can walk along the top of the walls, and the castle itself is now a hotel.
- A town of books — Óbidos is a UNESCO City of Literature, with bookshops in unusual places, including one inside a former church.
Good to know: the old town is largely closed to cars and the lanes are cobbled, so wear comfortable shoes. Parts of the wall walk have no railings — take care, especially with children.
Questions
ViaFátima Grand Circuit — your questions
Short answers to what guests ask most before they book. If yours is not here, message us — a real person answers.
Still have a question?
Send us a message on WhatsApp and we will help you plan the day.
WhatsApp us +351 9283 06989How long is the ViaFátima day, and how much of it is driving?
About 11 hours door to door. The longest drive is the first, roughly 1 hour 40 minutes from Lisbon to Fátima; the drives between the three towns are shorter.
The last leg, from Óbidos back to Lisbon, takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. It is a long day, so an early start helps — your driver will suggest the right pickup time.
Can we attend Mass at Fátima?
YesFátima is the first stop, in the morning, and Mass is celebrated there several times a day, English included.
Tell us which Mass you would like when you book and we will set the pickup time around it. Times change with the season, so check the Sanctuary’s Mass schedule first.
Can you pick us up from the airport or a cruise ship?
YesFrom Lisbon Airport, from the cruise terminal, or from any address in Lisbon.
Coming off a cruise? Tell us your all-aboard time when you book. ViaFátima is an 11-hour day, so on a shorter port call the 8-hour Fátima Pilgrimage Day Tour may fit better.
What if my flight is late?
Waiting is free for the first 60 minutes after your flight lands. After that it is €10 for every 30 minutes.
Give us your flight number when you book, so your driver can follow your actual landing time. A long delay shortens the day, so the earlier we know, the better we can plan it.
Can we change the order, or visit only two of the towns?
YesThe order can change on the day — the car is yours, so the plan is too.
If you only want two of the towns, a shorter tour costs less: the Óbidos & Nazaré Tour is 9 hours from €390, and the Fátima Pilgrimage Day Tour is 8 hours from €420, both per car.
Is there a wheelchair-accessible option?
NoWe do not have wheelchair-accessible vehicles with a ramp or lift, so we cannot offer this tour to guests who need to stay in their wheelchair.
Óbidos is also cobbled and hilly, with much of the old town closed to cars. We would rather tell you now than on the day.
Are lunch and entrance fees included?
Lunch is not included, and most of the day is free to see — the Sanctuary of Fátima, the clifftop at Nazaré and the streets and walls of Óbidos.
Small extras, such as the funicular in Nazaré, are paid on the spot. The fare covers the car, the driver, fuel, every motorway toll, and pastries and water on board.
Can I cancel, and can I book at short notice?
Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. Late bookings are welcome whenever a car is free.
A booking made less than 24 hours before pickup cannot be refunded.
